Dear Friends,
Eight days ago, on June 20, DSM hosted a concert by R&B artist Raheem DeVaughn, the first show in the 96-year-old Music Hall since the pandemic shut us down on March 13, 2020. I was moved beyond words to see our beloved Music Hall occupied by more than 1,800 real, live human beings after such a long hiatus. I may have even shed a tear of joy and relief that we are nearing the end of this long, tragic national crisis.
We have two more shows coming up this month: singer and actor Tyrese will light up our stage this Saturday, July 3 (you may know him from the Fast and Furious and Transformers movie franchises). And on Saturday, July 10, DSM is proud to welcome classical music back to the Music Hall as we present members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for an evening of String Quartet featuring works from Mozart, Bach, John Williams and more.
And of course 36 days from today (who’s counting?) DSM will lead the touring Broadway business roaring back to life when we open Dallas’ favorite musical Wicked on August 3.

CITYSQUARE’S HUNGER FIGHTING AWARD
Congratulations to DSM’s own Allison Bret and Devon Miller who were presented with CitySquare’s Hunger Fighting Award in honor of the support they provided CitySquare’s hunger program over the past year. “I want to emphasize that our work with CitySquare would not be possible without the support of DSM as an organization and our commitment to ensuring that our South Dallas neighbors receive the same dignity, respect, and value as those from other parts of our city and region.” -Devon Miller
LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING
DSM and Dallas ISD announced the release of the “Lift Every Voice and Sing” Dance Video Project starring Dallas ISD students and their teachers in celebration of the spirit of collaboration and to raise awareness for the necessity of arts in the school district. CLICK HERE TO WATCH!
DSM HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS
Congratulations to all the North Texas high school students, teachers, and theater departments that were celebrated in a virtual ceremony of the 10th Annual DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards on June 11. The 2021 Best Musical Award went to Waxahachie High School’s production of Matilda The Musical, the Best Actor award was presented to Parker Jackson (Guyer HS) and Best Actress went to Shantel Williams (Plano Senior HS). DSO CONCERT

DISD BROADWAY DAYS
This month, approx. 14,000 individual students split between 76 teachers in 456 classes participated in Dallas ISD Broadway Days with a livestream presentation of The Wiz. Understanding the critical importance for children to experience live theatrical entertainment, DSM provided the opportunity for students throughout the district to watch and engage with the virtually streamed production and supplied teachers with curriculum to accompany it.
